CLINICAL OBSERVATION IN LATE HEMORRHAGIC DISEASE OF INFANCY





Abstract
We have conducted the retrospective clinical observation including causes, clinical manifestation, laboratory fii dings, and clinical response of therapy on 20 children with late hemorrhagic disease of infancy, who wereadmitted to the pediatric; department of Kyung Hee University Hospital from Jan, 1980 to Dec. 1987. The results were as follows:
1) Age distribution occurs, below 1 month were 14cases (70%) after 1 month were 6 cases (30%). Male: Female sex ratio showed 1:1.2
2) The feeding history were breast feeding (8 cases, 40%) mixed feeding (8 cases, 40%), formula feeding (2 cases, 10%).
3) Location of bleeding were GI bleeding (10 cases, 50%), CNS bleeding (5 cases, 25%), skin bleeding (2 cases, 10%).
4) Clinical findings were bloody vomitus (10 cases, 50%), convulsion (9 cases, 45%,), Irritability (6 cases, 30%), Bloody stool (5 cases, 25%).
5) Complications were CNS hemorrhage (5 cases, 25 %), Anemia (4 cases, 20%).
6) Laboratory findings were PT prolongation (20 cases, 100%) Both PT and PTT prolongation (6 cases, 30%).
7) After vitamin K injection, 10 cases were occured hemostasis within 24 hours, 8 cases were occured hemostasis within 72 hours.
